BUSH WALKING & NATIONAL PARKS
Mt Warning is the 'plug' of an extinct volcano which erupted over 23 million years ago and is the second largest shield volcano in the world after Yellowstone in the USA. Our region boasts 14 national parks including world heritage listed Mt Warning, The Pinnacles, The Border Ranges & The Nightcap Ranges, and the centre-piece, Wollumbin. These all offer wonderful bush-walking experiences and great views, and most of them are free of charge to use. Bring good walking shoes, water bottles which you can fill with our beautiful spring water, and binoculars.
The Mt Warning track is open and available for climbing. There are also lots of stunning walks close by including walking the scenic rim of the volcano at the Border Ranges looking back to the West over many mountain peaks and Mt Warning itself, viewing this from a different angle to the usual one in the photos. These ranges are often overlooked due to focus on Mt Warning, but are in our opinion some of the best scenic walks in the Northern Rivers region.
Northern Rivers is home to many beautiful country towns, most with great cafes, craft shops, art galleries & country pubs. See the following links for more information:
Tweed Shire Art Gallery - includes cafe on balcony with stunning views
Uki Village - great cafes, funky shops at the Buttery
Sphinx Rock, Kunghur - includes a cafe & local produce shop
Red Rattler Gallery - art gallery & cafe at Dungee
Nimbin - historic 'hippy town
Byron Bay - well known alternative town with gorgeous beaches and whale watching in season
Northern Rivers Markets
We have many lovely beaches nearby including world renown Byron Bay (approx. 40 mins), Kingscliff; Fingal Heads (approx. 25 mins), Chinderah, Cabarita, Hastings Point & Pottsville (approx. 20 mins). Cabarita and Fingal Heads are both dog friendly with leash free parts of the beach). During the winter months all these beaches have whales and dolphins swimming just beyond the breakers, and are clearly visible from the shore. Bring your binoculars (& of course, sun protection).
If you don't feel like cooking while you are here, you can either have us bring you a lovely home cooked meal to your lodge (Go To Our Dinner Menu), or you can head into town to one of our lovely restaurants and cafes.
